Speech - Doing a Job

Rickover delivered this famous speech on November 5, 1982 at the Columbia University Thomas Egleston Medal award ceremony. In the speech, he succinctly outlined his management philosophy. His emphasized determination, clarity of purpose, emphasis on developing his people, high standards, and willingness to give his people ownership of their work had to have been very inspiring.

The Egleston award is in recognition of distinguished achievement in engineering or applied science. Rickover received the award in 1955 and was also a 1929 graduate from Columbia.
