Project Nobska (1956): Focus Paper

Project Nobska, conducted in 1956, was a seminal study commissioned by the United States Navy to assess and advance the technology and strategy for anti-submarine warfare (ASW). Named after the Nobska Point Lighthouse in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, where its meetings were held, Project Nobska played a crucial role in shaping modern naval warfare. The study's significance is underscored by the involvement of Admiral Hyman G. Rickover, a pivotal figure in the development of nuclear-powered submarines.  The study ran from 18 June through 15 September 1956, and the final report was released on 1 December 1956.
