2024 AUKUS Tri-lateral Naval Nuclear Cooperation Agreement

This is a collection of items related to the 2024 Trilateral agreement for cooperation between Australia, UK, and the USA on Naval Nuclear Propulsion titled:

Agreement Among the Government of the United States of America, the Government of Australia, and the

Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland for Cooperation Related to Naval Nuclear Propulsion

signed 8/5/2024 by representatives of the 3 countries.

The Agreement allows the United Kingdom (UK), Australia and the United States (US) to exchange information relating to conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines. The UK and US may also transfer Material and Equipment relating to conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines to Australia, provided such transfers would not constitute an unreasonable risk to their defense and security.

The President of the United States sent it to Congress for consideration on 9/7/2024 via this letter.

Section 123 d. of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended (42 U.S.C. 2153(d)) allows the President to make a determination to expand naval nuclear international cooperation with Congress having 90 days for consideration. Congress did not take any actions within the 90 day period.

It was also presented to the Australian and UK Parliaments for ratification.

As the Agreement does not appear to be available from US Government sites, the version submitted to Australian Parliament is available here and an explanatory memorandum prepared for the UK Parliament is available here.
