1983 - Rickover's Assessment of Three Mile Island

By letter of September 2, 1983, Mr. William G. Kuhns, Chairman, General Public Utilities, requested Rickover to assess the GPU Nuclear Corporation, including the soundness of the organization and its senior management, in anticipation of the operation of the undamaged nuclear plant at Three Mile Island (TMI-1). In this assessment, Rickover concludes that the GPU Nuclear Corporation, including the soundness of its organization and senior management as reported herein, I conclude that the Corporation has the management competence and integrity to safely operate TMI-1.
